Chocolate + CBD Synergy

What happens when you combine fine chocolate and pure CBD oil?

People have been using cacao and cannabis for at least four thousand years, and with good reason. In fact, these plants were considered to have magical properties.

Cacao and cannabis were considered sacred because people knew that each can make you feel better. Today, we know that chocolate gives you an energy boost and releases endorphins in the brain, making you feel relaxed and happier. And the more we learn about CBD, a chemical found in cannabis, the more useful it seems.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a chemical found in the cannabis plant. It’s not as famous as its cousin, THC, because it’s non-psychoactive (it can’t get you ‘high’ like THC), but new research shows that it can be used to decrease anxiety, help relieve pain, reduce heart disease, reduce acne, and even help people lose weight!

Right now, researchers are rushing to understand more about how CBD works and how it can be used to improve people’s lives. Yet, it’s clear just from talking to people who use CBD that it makes them feel better. People report that they’ve experienced relief from joint and muscle pain, cramping from carpal tunnel syndrome, fatigue, anxiety, and other problems. Research is still ongoing, but it’s clear that there’s something to all at the buzz about CBD.

So where does chocolate come in?

That’s a great question!

You might be surprised to know that dark chocolate can both improve your mood, and act as a natural painkiller. These effects were once thought to come from an endorphin release associated with eating chocolate, but that’s only part of the story. Chocolate also contains anandamide, also called ‘the bliss molecule’, for its role in regulating mood. Anandamide is found in chocolate, but it’s also produced naturally by the human brain, and it’s chemically similar to THC, the chemical in Cannabis responsible for the psychoactive ‘high’. We’ve been getting lots of questions about Anandamide, and we’re hard at work on an article dedicated to the topic, so stay tuned for more!

Chocolate is also a very high-antioxidant food, which means that it’s great for reducing inflammation. It’s been shown to help people with joint pain and even arthritis. Chocolate’s high antioxidant levels also make it a great recovery food after exercise, because it’s been shown to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation in your body’s cells. Not to mention that it tastes so good that it makes life that much better every time you take a bite!
