California Proposition 65 Statement
At Moksha Chocolate, we take ingredient integrity and consumer safety seriously. Every batch of our chocolate is handcrafted in Boulder, Colorado, using organic, ethically sourced cacao and other natural ingredients. Our commitment extends beyond taste. We also adhere to all applicable food safety and regulatory standards, including California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65.
We work closely with our trusted suppliers to verify that raw materials meet the highest standards for purity. Approved partners are required to monitor for potential contaminants and to certify that all ingredients comply with Prop 65 requirements.
Cacao is a naturally mineral-rich food, and trace amounts of elements such as cadmium and lead can be found in cocoa products worldwide. These elements occur naturally in the Earth’s soil and may be absorbed by cacao trees depending on regional soil composition. Because these minerals are naturally occurring, Prop 65 provides exemptions for certain naturally present elements found in agricultural products like chocolate.
Moksha Chocolate remains committed to transparency and ongoing compliance. We continuously review our sourcing, testing, and manufacturing processes to align with evolving Prop 65 standards.
California Proposition 65 Information
The State of California leads the nation in establishing consumer protection and food safety standards. Proposition 65 requires businesses to inform consumers about potential exposure to certain chemicals, even when those substances occur naturally in food.
Chocolate and Naturally Occurring Minerals
Cacao trees naturally absorb minerals such as magnesium, copper, and iron, nutrients that make cacao one of the most mineral-dense foods on earth. However, the same absorption process can result in trace amounts of other naturally occurring elements, including cadmium and lead, which exist in soil and water throughout the world.
These trace levels are not unique to chocolate. Similar elements can be found in everyday foods such as leafy greens, root vegetables, grains, coffee, wine, and nuts. The human body is well equipped with natural detoxification systems to process and eliminate these trace minerals when consumed as part of a balanced diet.
Moksha Chocolate sources only high-quality, ethically grown cacao from regions known for responsible farming practices and environmental stewardship. We are committed to continuous improvement and testing to ensure that our chocolate aligns with both regulatory standards and our own rigorous internal benchmarks.
